Cold caller ban cuts doorstep crime by 80

Town halls have been urged to set up no "Cold Calling Zones” Great news if you ask me. Knowing aggressive marketing companies like ETM, they will always find a way round this. Don't be shy to say no to these people. Read more: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article2289189.ece

The classic sales pitch (door to door)

I used to work for a company called ETM marketing (if anyone comes to you offering talk talk, you know it is them so beware). As far as i am aware, they are contracted to Talk Talk (http://www.talktalk.co.uk/) and have offices all over the U.K and Europe.

The classic sales pitch in my own words, based on the following five steps:

1. Introduction
2. Presentation
3. Short Story/Sizzle
4. Close
5. Rehash

-Hello don’t worry it is nothing serious
-did someone come to see you last Friday regarding the reductions in your phone bills? (Actually nobody came this is just a classic sales pitch to make you seem interested)
-Are you a BT customer? (Excellent)
- Are you the bill payer? (Fantastic)
- Do you pay by direct debit? (Excellent)
- How much do you pay a month/quarter? – does it include broadband?

Today we can reduce that down for you to £17.99 on Talk 3 which includes free land rental and a one-off connection fee of £29.99. How does this sound?

I know this may sound like a silly question but you would rather save money and keep all your services intact? Obviously the savings won’t send you around the world but with that amount of money in your back pocket you would rather use that for a holiday, kids etc.

It will only take 2mins (in actual fact it can last for up to 34mins) to fill out a quick form with your name and address and within 3-4 weeks you will start making your savings.

Can I lean on that table or chair (he/she points to an area in your house)

Anyone know what this slogan means: K.I.S.S (keep it short and simple)? We were told to keep the pitch short and simple

According to the company, they aren’t forcing this down your throats but it is in your best interest that you save money.

Always say no and be firm; slam the door if you have to; they won’t come back again. Remember these guys don’t take no for an answer so when you say no, they will just talk over you (as taught in the training) So be firm in your response.

If you don’t want a service/good they are offering don’t feel sorry for them even if they are soaked in the rain (never let them in). You might end up regretting it. These guys are working on targets. For example they have to sell a certain number of goods each week. In your first day you are not expected to sell anything but if you haven’t sold anything by the second week, you will be FIRED; simple as that. If you don’t sell you won’t get paid. So some (not all) will go all out to sell even to vulnerable people. At the end of the day if you want to change your telephone service, have a look at comparison websites like uswitch (http://www.uswitch.com/) and if Talk Talk is best for you, do it over the phone; never let these vermin’s into your house.

At this point, I will lift a few words from the manual:

Hooklines

Hooklines are phrases that can help to increase the customer’s interest by painting them a mental picture (these are the exact words they say)

“What is the first thing you look at when the bill arrives, the price or the logo?”
“You have to pay the bill anyway, most people just prefer to pay less”
“I take it it’s the service you are happy with, not the logo?”
“It just means you can talk longer for cheaper”
“The savings won’t pay for a trip to Australia, but if you could buy yourself a carton of fosters and imagine you’re there”

I hope you guys found this useful; I hope to write some more in the future, please stay tuned. Please feel free to comment on this
